Morgan Freeman is so excellent in that one. I have to agree with other comments that putting someone like this back in jail is not the best use of taxpayer money. At this point, he would have a hard time disappearing. Exactly, Tamara. I think the suggested community service is a fantastic idea, and a great solution for everyone.
I love that movie so much. One of my all-time favorites. The only thing I could find was that he was driving too fast and hit a pedestrian. He violated the conditions of his parole by getting behind the wheel again. Thanks, Frank. Unfortunately, he sounds like a typical young driver with bad luck.
Ironic that he ended up driving for a living! I agree, Jaime. It probably would have been easier for him to do the time when he was young and get it over with. He probably would have been released early for good behaviour. Welcome to my blog, Kim! It never occurred to me that there might be, so you were a step ahead. But it was not intentional.
The family too. The film and the Green Mile was excellent. I believe Shawshank is a brilliant book. Thanks J. Interesting …. He was lucky to escape the long arm of the law. Shawshank is one of the books I listened to by King, and also enjoyed the movie. Excellent performances by the entire cast.
I should probably watch the movie again after reading your blog and all the comments. When you accidentally kill someone he was at fault speeding in his car , I would think you feel pretty bad and guilty and OK with going to prison for a while.
But, then he escaped… This is all a tricky situation. When killing someone, you should get punished, but if that has happened and he is no threat to society at his old age, he should be able to live out his last years in peace, I think. Shawshank Redemption was such a good movie.
Loved the original, too. I love the film-it is one of my favourites and can always watch and re-watch it. They should keep some much, much, worse killers in prison which, many times, they let them go and deal with criminals who did escape but are true killers.
Big, fat no. If someone can make themselves a productive member of society with a clean nose, they deserve a chance at it. The fact that he lived his life on the lam in peace and without violence helps put me on his side. You find the most interesting real-life stories. I would think if he was crime free in all that time there would be no point in sending him back to prison. At least in lip service to it? I love this movie and the book.
I guess if you are found guilty of a crime, you have to face the consequences no matter what age. In the movie Andy do not kill his wife. This man kill someone.
This is a fact. Questions linger in Louisiana man's death. Two men charged in homicides of missing men. Story highlights Frank Freshwaters was captured by U. But not anymore.
The year-old's life on the lam ended Monday when he was taken into custody at his Melbourne, Florida, mobile home. The arrest ends a journey that took Freshwaters through numerous states, where he held various jobs and assumed multiple identities, according to authorities. It started in Ohio, where Freshwaters pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter charges stemming from a automobile accident. He initially got probation, only to be sentenced again in to up to 20 years at the Ohio State Reformatory after a parole violation.
Read More. That film and the Stephen King novella that inspired it were set in Maine, but the movie was largely shot at the Ohio prison. In fact, people in Mansfield, Ohio, can take tours to see key locales from the movie -- like the prison warden's office, parole board room, "the yard" and the escape tunnel used by main character Andy Dufresne.

Pills taken by millions of Britons to lower blood pressure could help combat the nation's diabetes crisis, Once his original stint in the hole was done, Andy was blackmailed by the Warden and given another month to think about his options. It was at this moment that Andy realized that the Warden was never going to let him leave Shawshank State Penitentiary. In , Andy escaped from Shawshank Prison. He had spent 19 years tunneling through the wall of his cell with his Rock Hammer , his hole covered by his poster of Rita Hayworth.
After Tommy was shot by Hadley under the command of Norton because he knew information that could support Andy's innocence, Andy decided he had been there long enough. He waited for a stormy night, whereupon he took the warden's shoes, and one of his suits, whilst hiding his rock hammer in the bible he had been issued upon his arrival, which he swapped for the Warden's ledger.
He procured a 6-foot length rope from Heywood, and tied a plastic bag filled with the records and books as well as a bar of soap and the stolen suit with his chess pieces made from carved rocks. He crawled through the sewage tunnel. After that he managed to bust a pipe open in unison with the thunder, to mask the sound of his blows to the pipe.
After three attempts, the pipe burst and opened. Andy crawled through yards of sewage, coming out into a river. After a meal of cold corn and refuse from his hair, he ripped off his inmate clothing, basking in his freedom,Andy then used the bar of soap to clean himself in the river before changing into his stolen suit.
The next day, Andy walked into the Bank of Portland and nearly a dozen other banks. He also mailed the evidence of their financial crimes to the Daily Bugle , presumably along with evidence of his own innocence. When the story was published, Captain Hadley was arrested and Warden Norton committed suicide to avoid arrest for his crimes.
He started working on opening his hotel.
